2022 Spartan North American Championship: Dates, Details, and More
The toughest obstacle course racers in North America will be crowned at Big White Mountain this summer. For the first time in the event's seven-year history, the North American Championship will be held outside of the United States. The 2022 championship will be held in Kelowna, British Columbia the weekend of August 27-28.
The Spartan Beast (21K, 30 obstacles) will decide the men’s and women’s titles. Big White Ski Resort will host the championship races, on Saturday, with Elite athletes competing for a share of $62,000 in total prize money.

“We are excited to finally bring the championships to Canada,” said Spartan founder and CEO Joe De Sena. "We’re putting together an epic course that will push our athletes to their limits. The terrain is no joke, but Spartans are used to a challenge. The question is, who wants it most?”
Qualification and Race Types
To qualify for the Elite race, athletes must finish in the top 10 of an Elite heat in any event in North America between Oct. 2, 2021 and Aug. 21, 2022. Age Group competitors must finish in the top 10 of an Age Group heat in any North American event between Oct. 2, 2021 and Aug. 21, 2022.
All athletes are welcome to compete in the Open heat.
The North American Championship weekend also features a Spartan Ultra (50K, 60 obstacles), a Spartan Super (10K, 25 obstacles), and Kids races (1–3K, plus obstacles).

A Look Back: The 2021 North American Championship in Tahoe
In last year's North American Championship, in North Lake Tahoe, Canadian Ryan Atkins stormed through 30 obstacles, a half-marathon distance, and extremely technical terrain to win the Beast in 1:56:23. He finished in front of American Ryan Woods (1:58:22) and Mexican Angel Quintero (2:02:34).

In the women's heat, Canadian Emma Cook-Clarke won her first North American Championship with a time of 2:19:28. American Annie Dube (2:20:49) finished in second and Slovenian Rea Kolbl (2:25:30) rounded out the podium with a third-place finish.
