THE MAN

Rodolfo “Rudy” Reyes has led quite a fascinating life, and that might be the understatement of the century. Born on the Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Kansas City, which has since closed, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1998, serving his country until 2005. (More on that later.) Following his stint in the service, Reyes became something of a renaissance man. A conservationist and martial arts instructor, he’s also been featured on several television shows. And, as you can see in the videos above and below, he continues to work out religiously and fervently, keeping himself in immaculate shape.

THE LEGEND

Reyes served in Afghanistan during his seven-year military run, and is a veteran of both the Iraq War and Operation Enduring Freedom. During the War on Terror, he rose to the rank of sergeant in the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion.

On the small screen, Reyes was a contestant on Ultimate Survival Alaska, he appeared in Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge, and he starred in Apocalypse Man on History (formerly The History Channel). Most notably, he played himself in the HBO miniseries Generation Kill. In 2009 he published his first book, Hero Living: Seven Strides to Awaken Your Infinite Power.

On What Makes a True Spartan

What a legend. If these videos don't get you jacked up to get off the couch and start working out with sandbags — shirtless — in public in front of adoring children, nothing will. We also recommend mimicking Rudy's music choices, especially Audioslave. (RIP, Chris Cornell.) Most importantly, we thank Rudy for his service to our country.
