"I'm just not strong or fast enough," an athlete says. "I'm a terrible public speaker and no one will ever listen to my ideas," a prospective entrepreneur says. "I'm not as smart as my peers," a medical student says.
What do all of these statements have in common? They're all examples of negative self-talk — when your inner monologue becomes your own harshest critic, sounding pessimistic to a fault — which can not only diminish your confidence and talk you out of attempting hard things, but it can also make you feel like failure before you've even attempted something.
