It’s not uncommon to hear someone say that the winner of the decathlon is the greatest athlete in the world. Decathletes have been known to be some of the most fiercely competitive people on the planet. Training non-stop, day-in and day-out, with the hopes of someday being crowned champion of this 10-mini event series which culminates together in one epic physical feat. Decathletes have to be well-rounded athletes, incredibly dedicated to their fitness, as well as their mental toughness. After all, who is willing to spend so much of their time, their life, to the tireless pursuit of conquering the decathlon?

What is the Decathlon?
Formed from the Greek word deka, meaning “ten,” the decathlon puts athletes through two separate five-event segments that span over the course of a two-day period. The events include:

First Day Decathlon Events
- 100M Dash
- Running Long (Broad) jump

Second Day Decathlon Events

The decathlon is unique in that the toughest opponent that an athlete will face is not the athlete next to them. Instead, they’re in a continuous and grueling battle with time, fatigue, distance, and self-doubt. Those who compete in decathlons are held to such an insanely high standard, that even those who do not place can leave knowing that they are some of the most disciplined and well-trained athletes in the world.

How Decathlon Inspires DEKA (The Decathlon of Functional Fitness)
The standards of excellence put in place to crown the original decathlon winners helped drive the mission of DEKA. As humans, we need to continuously test, train, improve, and maintain our bodies. DEKA uses 10 fundamental movements and exercises in order to create a standardized level of testing to help athletes assess which areas of their bodies need to be strengthened, and provide a level of training to accomplish those goals. DEKA is the decathlon for all levels of fitness—everyone who makes it through this grueling series deserves a DEKA Mark!
